lack of power

Has anyone experienced a lack of power and fuel mileage after mods? I am! I got more power out of my stock set up then with the set up I have now!!! and the gas mileage did suck bad ( about 150 mile to the TANK!!!!) but it seems better now that I changed the plugs. Power is still lacking bad!!! I have done everything I could think of except chip and Dyno! any ideas?

did every thing but chip and dyno? these are the 2 things you NEED to do, esp after new heads and intake. did you not throw in a cam with the setup also? after dropping ~$1700 on h/i i cant imaging not spending another few hundred to make it work.

you need a tune. i mean if youre getting less power after heads and intake theres def something not right and this would fix it. and you also need a cam if you dont already have it

yeah I got a cam with the heads and intake kit but it needed some machine work done on it so I just put the stock one back in it until I have the funds and time to tear it all apart again. I'm thinking I might have it put in by somebody.

the first thing that comes to my mind when people say that they put nice "go fast" parts in their car....and it's not running right...especially in a 94-95...is they need a tune.

the second thing that comes to my mind.....is improper matching of parts.

It sounds like you have a case of both of those things. You have a nice rather high flowing top-end...that'll flow til your engine can't spin anymore......but if your cam poops out early in the rpms, you're leaving some power on the table by not taking full advantage of the trackheat's power range.

get a cam that's optimum for your setup and put it in.

get some 24lb/hr injectors and matching maf (or get a tweecer and use a cobra tune)

change out your fuel pump for good measure

check for any obvious mechanical things

take it to a dyno tuner and get the thing tuned.

It'll be a whole different beast.

Well seeing as I just bought these injectors for $200 bucks I'm not about to tell the wife I need another set of even more expensive ones. Besides I have been told that 19lbers will be fine since I didn't go up in displacement.

As I said I have the Cam already and i was going to put it in but I needed machining done and I needed the car running so I put the old one back in for now.

"Besides I have been told that 19lbers will be fine since I didn't go up in displacement." rlaugh: Bad info, ford seemed to think the cobra, witch is also a 302, needed 24#ers. and the cobra's heads and intake dont flow nearly as much as your set up. good luck man.

If at all possible I'd recommend trying to sell those injectors for some 24lbers at the least

However, if the cost is the issue..you COULD get by using 19s....

I don't know how long I'd trust that...but as long as you don't romp on it.....it may get you by.

hope everything works out for you
