I went to the Pomona swap meet this weekend and couldn't pass up a deal. I was only looking for a billet flywheel and found one. But it was connected to a centerforce clutch pack and included a Lakewood Scattershield.

This will mount behind a roller 306 with a T-5 (Z) using Mustang Steve's cable clutch setup. I also have a set of Mac long tubes.

First, has anyone installed the scattershield in a 65/66? If so, did you have any clearance issues with headers? If so, what brand were they.

Thanks,
-Chuck

I have both 28oz. and 50oz. billet steel flywheels. I purchased the 50oz. for the roller motor I'm building over the weekend. I originally bought the 28oz. thinking I'd rebuild my 289 but couldn't pass up a 5.0 with a nice Crane cam for $100.

I have Hedman long tubes on my '68, and had to grind the Lakewood T5 bellhousing on the driver's side as well.(I used a dremel and it took forever!! My brother said a grinder would've worked better except I didn't have one.)

I didn't have to grind anything off of the passenger side although I did have the passenger side header off of the car when I installed the Lakewood.

I'm not sure I could have installed the Lakewood bellhousing without having one header or the other removed.

If that turns out to be the case, install the starter in the bellhousing before you install the passenger side header. It's easier to install the top bolt to the starter that way well at least it is with the Hedman's anyway.

You might want to run a tap in the threads of the bellhousing if the bellhousing is new to remove any paint in the threads too.

Edit: I've got a 302 FWIW.

My notch in my bell was made before I bought it (used) and was made with a smoke wrench :D. I cleaned it up with a grinder, if I remember right, its about a 3"-4" section about 7 to 8 o'clock if your looking towards the front of the car.

I agree about putting the starter in before the passenger header. I think I put the drivers side in then put in the bell. This would make it easiest to see where you need the clearance as I didn't need any on the passenger side either. Plus the driver's side is the bigger PITA with the steering box and the clutch linkage.
