Later model inertia switch fit earlier models?

Will the red-button later model (early to mid 90s) inertia switch fit into my 89 GT that currently has the white-button model?

I'm thinking my inertia switch is causing an intermittent fuel pump shut off......you guys think the switch can do that? I've changed everything else....fuel pump, ignition switch, pump relay......
