Well, I decided to fork over the $$ to get the leak test down the right way....dont want to take any chances.

Thanks for those that replied on my previous post about the leak down, but have more specific question.

I want to be able to communicate knowlegeably with the tech. Are there specific numbers that I should look for in the test, or is it specific for each engine.

I have pretty much stock lower end (everthing b/t the headers and lower intake is stock.

Just to want to get BS'd about the results.

If the test is good, Im gonna pick up the Snow Kit and get it put on in a week or so.

Thanks
RC

You were having a local shop do this right? I was curious, why did they wanna do a leakdown test prior to installing the meth. kit? I'm guessing it'll give a good indiciation of the integrity of your engine's guts, just curious as to what they were wanting to see? I'm looking at getting one soon, just doing my homework here. I remember you mentioning blowby, maybe they're trying to see if a rebuild would better suit you? If you got any info, please share, thanks

5-7% is acceptable, but less than 5% is where you wanna be, For what its worth, my car just did 15-18%... time for a new motor...

5% WHAT???

Is there not a PSI pressure that is read on the gauge?

Hef: Under high boost, the dipstick pops out a little. I will be adding more timing with the Meth kit, hence more power. I dont want to add more power if there is an integrety issue.

You dont have to do a leakdown simply to add a Meth kit...Im just worried about another issue.

I May have done this, except I dont feel like having a fire in my engine at 80mph on the hwy because oil splashed out of the DS tube.

5%, a leak down test pushes air into the combustion chamber and measures the amount that leaks out, it displays the percentange on a gauge, you are thinking of a compression test.

Gotcha... The Comp test is the PSI measurement correct?

So I looking for less than 7% if I want to slap on the Meth kit without any further motor work?
