Leaking Valve Covers.....Ahhhhh

I have the black cast aluminum "Mustang powered by Ford" valve covers. I am also running Comp Cams steel roller rockers and they hit the side of this cover (too thin to grid a relief) so I put a valve cover extension on it which solved the problem of the roller hitting the side of the valve cover but now they leak. The bottom gasket is OK but the gasket under the valve cover itself is the problem area. Do they make these black, finned "Mustang powered by Ford" valve covers that are taller/wider? I like the look of these valve covers so I would like to stay with these if possible. Any better ideas?

nope, the only thing i'm aware of is the tall cobra valve covers like you can get from tony branda

Two choices, either have the covers you want or have the covers you need. I went with the covers I need as I much rather prefer the benefits than the "looks" factor. Good luck.

I just bought "Ford Racing" valve covers to replace my leaking cheap-ass valve covers. The "Ford Racing" ones are quite high, and are also availalbe in black.

before you go pay some money for new covers, try my sealant suggestion. weatherstrip adhesive. you can use regular sealant between the head and the bottom of the gasket, but put a layer of weatherstrip stuff on the top of the gasket and the bottom of the valve cover. let it tack up for about a minute, then push it down and tighten the bolts.

Can you use 5.0 gaskets? I have the felpro version and if it can seal, I believe they eould do it. They only work with valve cover rails that have no lip.

Yep, these are great. With the ford motorsports, I have taken them of MANY a times and reused them and NEVER I mean NEVER had a leak.

Thanks for all the info......the cast valve cover has a lip and I am using the 5.0 gasket on the bottom of the extension. It's the gasket that sits on top of the extension and fits into the groove of the cast valve cover thats the problem. I went to Autozone after church this morning to get a crappy cork gasket and they had a new addition to the Felpro gaskets. (VS 13264 T) This is a very nice blue rubber and steel gasket (not the 5.0) but one that is designed to fit into the groove of a cast valve cover. They cost $26 a set so I will give them a try.
