ive got a 1996 GT with a warmed over 4.6. Cobra short black, forged internals, 10.5:1 compression, PI intake, C&L plenum, BBK 75mm throttle body, 36lb injectors, AirRaid CAI, stock exhaust manifolds. It dynoed at 298 rwhp. The tuner said it could make more, but he had to pull some timing while dyno-tuning it because of old gas (it sat for some time while I waited for the engine).
The problem I have is that sometimes I get detonation,especially at when I'm running up the gears some. It doesn't do it all the time, though. If I get on the highway (60-70 mph) and then drive on secondary roads it doesn't do it. And sometimes it doesn't do it at all. It has a Walbto 195l/hr fuel pump,which I would think is adequate. The fuel filter is pretty new, also. I'm wondering if the car is leaning out. Any ideas on what might be going on or has anyone experienced this type of thing?
