OK fellas.. I ordered an HID kit for my fox.. I know I know, its not a "retrofit" but i definitely plan on a retrofit in the very near future. I wanted to also get some LED taillights for the fox but just sticking an "LED" bulb in the stock fox housing won't cut it. I was "thinking" about getting a trailer LED lens/housing from Superbrightleds.com, and "retrofitting" it into the fox housing.. What do you guys think?? Here is the light in question:

Thread already hijacked!!! Damn Posse!!!!!!!!

Coupe....that would be badass. That light looks like it would be an exact fit into an LX tail light.

I think so. I figured i'd take that trailer lamp apart, and fab it up inside the fox housing

I know that thread, He custom made his LED's... Like he bought separate LED's and soldered them to a board, and wired it all up. With this, i'd have to custom it up a bit but all the hard stuffs is done already.

Those look perfect for a fox taillight housing. I may buy these also to do a LED conversion. I've always wanted LED taillights but never wanted to make a board as I could fail miserably at it. lol Keep us posted on this if you do it.

I was thinking the same thing as you, I didn't want to spend a fortune on supplies just to mess up and be out all that money. I was looking at the pics and its a 3 wire light. I would assume one wire for the Brake, one for when u have the headlights on, and one is ground. It seems pretty straight forward, and i 100% plan on doing it, i just wanted to see what you guys thought too.

I am going to go either tomorrow or next saturday to my local mustang salvage yard to take some measurements of the housing. I don't want to rip apart my car just to take some measurements. When i begin this project, i'll be sure to make a thread about it

They sell those same things at Harbor Freight. I've been pretty tempted to try that out, myself, but I really can't stomach hacking up a perfectly good tail lens housing to try to make the thing fit inside there. Maybe if I had like a $500 beater Fox or something with a completely hopeless arse-ugly body and stuff, I'd try it and not feel as bad if I failed and only managed to mutilate the thing...

Definitely wanna see how this turns out for ya'. Are you going to take the LED's out of the trailer light housing and then fit them inside the Fox lens housing, or are you going to keep the LED's in their stock housing and just fit that whole assembly behind the Fox lens by cutting-to-fit the Fox housing behind it?

Well i have that mustang salvage yard by me, so i'll take all my measurements from there. If i happen to mess up the housing on my car i know there are a zillion over there i can just go pick up.

As far as the LED trailer lenses.. Goal for me is to completely dissamble them, and install the LED's only into the fox style housing. If this is too difficult to do, i will attempt to modify the housing to fit inside the fox lens. I want to avoid that at all cost though and try to get as much of that trailer lens off as possible, installing only the LED's in the fox housing

There's been a lot of talk about LED tail lights over the years on this forum, but i have yet to see anyone pull it off.

My buddy has some LED bulbs in his, which make the brake lights a LOT brighter, but you still only have the light source in the middle of the lense.

hey!
this is all together great, but one night almost as if it were a dream when i had my white 5.0 i came across a black gt and the guy had it painted with boss 302 pintsripe/decal i was like lol what a poser, i got next to him and asked him did you put a boss in it! he replied, no actuallys a 351w? i was like wtf. but he was like check this out! his tailights were custom led/something beyond me at the time, and were sequential! and he had undercar neon that were sequential to go with the tailights!!!!!
i will never forget that night! i never saw that car again! and this is not BS, that guy had to me an electrical genius or something. his tailights almost made up for his poser 302 decals!

in short! i want to see this finished and working!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is the thread and He has the pics up

http://forums.stangnet.com/399163-my-led-taillight-panels-version-should-i-use.html

I can't do this. i just don't have the knowhow OR the money to be spending on something like and have it completely fail. At least with the trailer lights, its affordable and there is a good chance i can pull it off.

I'll make a thread when i begin the project

I'm pretty sure the Harbor Freight ones (if you have one in your area, or a Cummins Tools) will wind up costing less than the Internet-order ones, if you want to minimize the cost of your investment in the experiment.

I don't understand why they're selling friggin' LED kits for SN95's and S197's and all kinds of trucks all over the place, but nobody's selling any for Fox Mustangs ... or, if they are, I'm sure they're wanting like $200 a pair or something insane. I mean, jeez, it's not like there isn't a demand for it...
