Can you wire the 2step to a switch on the clutch? I would much rather see it be a seamless operation?

I tried this with the stock switch in Scott's coupe .

For some reason the eec back feeds some ref voltage through the circuit and that switch and you can't get a clean open and close ground signal off of it to trigger the relay to stay shut until the clutch is let up .

I use to have it wired that way. Problem is that the switch disengaged the moment the clutch leaves the floor. The clutch doesn't engage until further up, leaving a free revving time where the rpms climb. I really like the horn button. I guess I am missing what you are talking about. With one exception, I have been able to release the 2 step pretty consistently I feel.

Just thinking out loud here, is there a way to make the 2 step switch engagement adjustable? Or would be be reinventing the wheel?

Do you have a datalogger? I think with that you are going to really fight clutch consistency problems on the launch, actually, i think you already are by watching the videos. Releasing the button as the pedal is coming out is going to be different every time so you could get a big rise or drop in RPMs as the pedal is coming out depending on when you release the button in relation to the clutch pedal.

Two ways to go in my opinion
Put some kind of switch on the clutch pedal, and use a relay and a momentary button so that when you release the pedal it is the same every time. With this method all you would do was push the clutch in, press the button, and now until the clutch switch is released the 2step is on. I used a nitrous style microswitch on a 1" wide aluminum strip that i attached to one of the brake booster studs and made it to length and adjusted the engagement by adjusting the angle of the bracket.

Or put it on the rev limiter and tune the suspension around that method. That is probably what i would do.

You want the free-rev of the motor right before the clutch comes out.
I'd put the switch back on the clutch and let the motor snap.
Before I let the clutch out, I shove mine to the floor... no 2 steps or line locks here... all eyes and feet.
If I were you, I'd try 14psi cold, heat them up good (2-3 seconds of smoke), 5000-5500rpm launch.
Cannot help you on the shock settings, but if you can duplicate Lakewoods fronts at 70/30 and rears at 50/50 it would be a good starting point.

We have very similar suspension.
I'm running Kevins uppers, weight jacker lowers stock K/arms, stock rear sway bar, removed front sway bar and an air bag in the passengers side rear coil at 5psi... Lakewood 70/30's and 50/50's. Car weighs 3270 with me in it. Et Street bias plys and it's gone 1.64 (with spin, which is what a bias wants) and I know there is more in it as I figure things out.

See above post, I have had that exact thing setup before. There is a period between the relay disengaging and the clutch grabbing that the motor free revs over launch rpm. I have found that the button is more consistent.

There has been some learning curve to the button. I use my shifter hand to hold thenbutton, that way I am forced to let go and move to the shifter. I do not let off the button until I feel the car start to react/clutch grab. Sure, there is some room for error here, but I feel as though I have it down pretty well. Is there something you see in the video that suggest differently? And no, I have no datalogger at this time. Video is as good as it gets.

In my opionon, on the 1.86 sixty foot video it sounds like you were way late on letting go of the button and thats why it bogged the engine down so bad, same thing on the run 7 vid. Until you get the two step set up right so that it doesnt have any operator error you are going to be chasing your tail with the suspension because you are adjusting to a launch condition that is not repeatable.

You are close though, it is tough with a stick car. When my car ran high tens i was at a bracket race and didnt have a two step, decided to turn the limiter down to 6600 and left off of that all day, it was the most consistent the car has ever been.

Thanks for the feed back. I will look over it again and see if I can pick up on it. The wiring and relay are still in place. Bit would only be a 5 minute deal to put it back on the clutch for some back to back comparisons.

No problem, you are on the right track. i know how frustrating it can be to get the 2step right. I chased the different setups for a while but now mine is triggered thru the Holley EFI using a momentary button and driveshaft speed so it shuts off as soon as there is any wheel speed.

Joe are you using your stock clutch switch to trigger the relay ? I had used the diagram you had given me a while ago to do my friends and I could not get the switch to give me a clean ground to keep the relay latched .

Yep, same one. It worked well at holding for me.
