Well I just bought a used single turbo kit , and have a few questions for all the turbo users on here. I have been reading up on different sites and still need some things cleared up.

The kit that I am getting doesn't have a few things ,and thats what I need help with since I really dont know alot about turbos. This kit has a T40 turbo wich I have been told is kinda small so I probably wont even use it. So what size would I need for a stock, but healthy 94 cobra motor? Wastegates.... I'm totally lost there, I do know that they allow a certain amount of boost ,but how do I know which wastegate to get? Will they all work for every brand of turbo? Where do I acctually put the wategate on at?

Oil lines for the turbo; are they a ''one size fits all''? Or will some high pressure hoses be ok? I know about the drain line, but what about the feed line where would I need to run it from? The kit does not come with an intercooler so there's somthing else I need info on.

There's a buch more things i'm shure I have forgotten, but if I can get some of these things cleared up first I will feel alot better. Thanks for any help.

sounds to me like someone needed to do a little more research before jumping into buying stuff.

The turbo is personal preference. For the wastegate, TIAL makes real quality ones. You'd probably want to get at least a 38mm WG http://www.boostedsystems.com/produ...d=101&osCsid=5978302a412736c8a3ed7fe914a76726

A WG like that will go on the crossover or at the merge of the two pipes before the turbo, then get dumped back into the downpipe. Some turbos have a WG allready on them, but you usually only see thoes on the smaller turbos.

For an oil line, you'll either want to run a -3AN or -4AN steel braded line and it would be best to run some kind of filter on that line as well to help with cleaning the oil before it goes into the turbo.

You need to do a lot more research before you go out and start buying more stuff. Just trying to save you money. You'll need bigger injectors, fuel pump, MAF, probably a FPR, not to mention some way to tune it.

You definately have some reading ahead of you. But dont worry, it all makes sense after a while turbomustangs.com search function will be your best friend for a while.

IMO - I would think the best bang/buck turbo you will find for your car is probably a Master Power T-70. Definately one of the more reasonably priced ones if you decide you dont like the t40(?) with the kit. Wastegates again are a personal prefrence, but I dont think you can go wrong with a Tial. 39-44mm should be good. For an oil line most people use a pre-crimped nitrous line with AN fittings on the ends, or depending on the length, they buy the stainless hose, and put the ends on themselves. For the oil drain use at least a -10 size line.

BTW, if you have any pics of the turbo, I might be interested in buying it.. Let me know some details on it.

For the turbo, you might want to look at something like a 60-1, 62-1 or even a T70, with something like a .81 to .84 or close to it exhaust housing..

Wastegate controls the amount of exhaust gas the turbo sees, inturn controlling the amount of boost you see.. You might want to try a Tial 38mm gate, with a .7 bar spring or so.. Don't go too wild with the boost.. Keep it somewhere between 5 and 15lbs. Hopefully the kit you have is set up for a 35/38mm gate.. You can measure the wastegate inlet flange.. 35/38mm should be close to 1.5" ID.

For the feed.. It's very simple.. You want a 4an feed with 1 90* NPT 1/8" to 4an elbow, and a 1/4" to 4an elbow.

For the drain, you want a 10an line, with 2 straight 10an to 1/2" fittings. The pushloc I think it's called is fairly cheap and works well.

For the intercooler, check Ebay.. They have a load of decent coolers for cheap.. Look at something with 3" inlet/outlets, 3" core thickness, maybe 7-12" tall and 26" or so wide.

You should be able to find a cheap manual boost controller on Ebay also. For a BOV I would just go with the 1st generation DSM valve, as they work just as well if not better then some aftermarket valves.. If you have the cash though, you cannot beat a Tial 50mm BOV.

I've got a quick question on blow off valves...what makes one louder than the other? Its a sweet noise but i have heard so many srt-4s and other rices with LOUD and ANNOYING BOV's.

The kit came with some 42# inj. and a lightning(sp?) maf for 42's + a new boost gauge so I'm good there. The down pipe that came with it is ''incomplete'' or at least thats what the guy I bought it from told me.

The BOV, where do you mount it at? I read the article in the new MM&FF where they put the kit on that 90's vert and it showed their BOV coming off or in the intercooler.

Vband clamps do they sell those at a local parts house or it that somthing i'm going to have to order?

I've called DELK here in TN and they said for a dyno tune it's gonna run me $650. ouch, and he said that it could take a day or a whole week to do it! But I guess it would be a good tune if it costs that much.

Oink let me shop around for the turbo's that yall have noted , and i'll p.m. you some pics and specs on this one. I'm shure I'll have more questions when I accually start into this, but yall have helped out alot right now ;so I guess i'm going to be doing alot of reading.

t70, 38-44mm tial, dont cheap out, you want brand name tial not ss autochrome ebay crap, sdame with the turbo.
oil feed lines, tee off your sending unit and use 3/16" brake line, drain 3/4 push lok i think its called, it has to be made for oil, not junky heater hose, it will disintegrate.
bov mount b4 the maf, post pics of the setup and that would help explain this to you
vband clamps, turbo parts supplier only.
thats pretty steep for a dyno tune, but if you run conservative, you can tune it yourself, make sure you get a kirban afpr
