hey all

just bought the FMS replacement OE lifters for my 5.0

Ive been searching around and have found alot of "which lifters should i buy?" threads but none that deal with how to install them. Can i just dunk them in motor oil, or do i need assembly lube?

Also, do i have to reaplce the camshaft as well? Im REALLY not willing to do that at this point, so i hope i dont have to...

TIA

If they are roller then you don`t have to do a cam change. Flat tappet cam lobes "form" to the lifter therefore you should change the cam and lifters at the same time! Hope this helps.

Stock engine?

Basically you are doing an intake R&R

BUT, you gotta go a little further. Simply take the rockers off. If they are stock, just unbolt them. Take the pushrods out. Then unbolt the retainer and remove, remove the dogbones and then you just take the lifters out and swap. I'd get a quart of oil, put it in a tupperware bowl and soak the lifters in them for a few days.

Install is the opposite. Install the dogbones with UP pointing up, then bolt down the retaining "spider", reinstall the pushrods and bolt down the rockers.

Then reinstall the upper intake

You can also just use the oil pump to prime the lifters and avoid soaking them for a few days. It takes 2 minutes to do.
