I'm putting new lifters in my 88 GT, and was wondering if anyone knew the torque spec for the 2 small bolts that fasten the spider retainer to the lifter valley. These bolts are pretty small, so they really couldnt take too much torque.

I would say between 17-25 ft/lbs

bolt torq specs are based upon the thread diam, pitch, and material of the fastener...17-25 fl/lbs is WAY TOO MUCH for the little 1/4"-20 spider fasteners...unless you really want to break it off in your block. water pump bolts are 5/16"-18, and they are only torq'd from 12-18 ft/lbs

...i'd say about 60in/lbs (5 ft/lbs) will be sufficient

JerryDaugherty - Something is hindering it from going all the way down in the threads. Try checking for crossthreading (not likely based on the material of the block and that small of a bolt). Clogged threads?

I just snugged mine down (put loctite on them as well).
