Hey guys. The other day I bought a nice Roush CAI from a local stanger for my car, and installed it. Today, I bought a lightning MAF from the same guy for $70.00. I know that it physically is a straight up install, but what do I need to do to make the car run properly with it? Do I need to take it to a shop for a tune? Will the computer simply compensate for the larger MAF via the O2 sensors in the exhaust if I just install it and go? I plan on getting either a Predator or Livewire in the near future, should I wait until I have that to install the LMAF? Will one of those allow me to retune the car for it properly, or will I still need to go to a local race shop for custom LMAF programming? I'm planning on a FRPP blower setup in the next year or so, so that's why I snagged it from him. I know I don't NEED it now, but I figure since I have it, why the heck not... Thanks guys!

You can't run it without a tune. You have to change the MAF transfer curve in the computer. Keep that in mind when picking a tuner also. Since the XCal and predator will not let you adjust the transfer curve directly, I don't think. You'd need a custom tune loaded from the dealer.

What dealer? My Ford dealer? They won't touch anything aftermarket. There's a performance Mustang shop near me, Dez Racing. At that point though, I'm not going to pay for a tune just to run the MAF and see no gains. It'll sit on the shelf until the blower is in, and I'll get it all tuned at once. At least I got it cheap, and it'll be waiting for me...

The car must be tuned when changing MAF. You do not even need the LMAF with your current mods anyways. But when you get your car custom tuned you could tell the tuner to tune for it and install it then. Or you could just sell it.

That's what I'm planning KT. I'm thinking that right now it won't do diddly, but when I get a blower, it'll help some. For now it'll sit until the blower is in. Once I am done with the blower install, I'll take my SCT or Predator along with the car over to Dez and have them do a custom tune that includes adjustments for the MAF and load it in my tuner so I'll be all set.

The dealer you get your tuner from. Not the ford dealer.

Oh. Probably gonna get it on Ebay, but I really should just get one locally and get a nice tune thrown into the deal...
