Hi when I start my Lightning there is a noise that happens just after the starter leaves the motor I thought it was my converters but I went to have them checked and the guy there at the muffler shop told me the cats were fine he said it sounded like it was coming from the connection point between the manafold (sorry don't know how its spelled)and the exhaust system so he took a long ratchet and tightened it so the next day there it is again it really only does it early in the morning or if I have not driven for a wile when the truck is cold , then later when the truck is worm I hear a taping sound the guy at the muffler shop told my that that tapping sound was the sound of me loosing compression he then said I have a leak in my head gasket and needed to be taken to the dealer now my truck has been making this sound for a wile about 6 months and in that time frame I did go out of town with it for Hurricane Gustave about 100M, Now it did just start the tapping thing about a week or so but the other sound after the starter has been there for a wile Another guy at a shop told me it's got to be an exhaust leek and for me to jack the car take off the wheel remove the rubber mud guard and from there I should be able to get to the manafold bolts to remove them and see it there is a gasket if there is look at it to see if there is any evidence (soot) of a leek if there is no gasket to get one from Auto Zone and put one there.
I wanted to give as many detail's as possible!
Does anyone think I have a head gasket leek? there is no oil in the water and no water in the oil the truck runs great.
Does any one have any input?
The sound after starting sounds like what I have herd from cracked cats but I saw them hit my cats with a rubber mallet and they didn't make a sound.
The tapping sound is not always there there it goes and comes the other day I was trying to let someone hear it it would not do it then another time when it was doing it I noticed that when I went into park it stopped and if I went back into drive with my foot on the brake it tapped again.
