lights dim under full throttle

I'd get the battery checked... could be at the point where it's maintaining borderline voltage and the charging from the alt can't keep it high enough... or maybe the alternator, it could be dying and can't keep up with demand from the ignition at high RPM? I don't think belt slippage could get bad enough to do that without you smelling it burning.

In addition to the spark load the fuel pump duty cycle will go up under WOT putting an addition load on the alternator.

OP, if you load the electrical system by:

  • turn on the highbeam headlights
  • turn on the rear defogger
  • turn on the wipers
  • turn the HVAC fan to max

do you see the charge light come on? Do you have a voltmeter? If so, measure the voltage at the battery terminals at idle in this condition and at ~2000RPM and report back.

Measure both DC and AC voltages if you can.
