Likes and dislikes of my new 12 convertible

Interesting comparison between a Mustang and Jaguar.

We had a barely similar dilemma when deciding what to buy, a GT or a Jaguar XK.

The wife wanted:
Convertible
Auto

I wanted
Coupe
Manual

So we compromised and got a auto convertible...... a Jaguar XK 5.0.
I must say it's a beaut of a car with split personalities. You can drive it quietly and smoothly or you can put it in Sport and Dynamic mode and it's a beast. The paddle shifters are amazing!!!! Coming from someone who has always hated paddles, that is a great deal.

I think that we'll see paddles on the Mustang in the next few MY and the way technology is going I think it could be really good for the stang.

Just in case you wondered, I have plans now for a GT500 coupe, so it wasn't all my wife's way. :nono:

I can't believe reading this thread in this forum. I know that forums are big for people to attack from behind their computer screens and just do the ol' back and forth attacks and cut downs, but it's more than that. People buying their cars just for status? People bitching about a car they pay so much for? (that is why you research before dropping so much money on it).

I'm not what you would call an enthusiast, so I didn't buy an 8 cylinder to run around town at speeds that could get my insurance through the roof if caught, and I could care less what other people think about me and if they envy what I have. I bought my 2010 convertible because I enjoy open air driving, how much I like the looks of the car, and that I enjoy spending my money on many other things besides overpriced gas. I took my car to the coast in NC this past summer, a couple of times, on a 200 mile trip and got right over 29 mpg. That's pretty nice for a 6 cylinder engine.

Everybody has their reasons for wanting cars, status symbols, motor heads, racing nuts, and I guess, even boring people like me that just buy what we like without feeling the need to impress everyone or put others down for their choice. My vehicle is to work, go on vacation, drive around town, and I enjoy looking at other people's Mustangs to see how much they love them and what they do to them. It's their prerogative to do what they like, and buy what they like. Too bad people have to judge you with the choices you make, or the money you have to make those choices.

I agree with you 100%. I can afford any car under $100,000 and I chose a 6 cylinder rag-top. I don't give a rats ass what other people think or what kind of penis envy they either have or think others have. I am driving every day in heavy city/highway stop and go traffic going to and from work. Why would I spend extra $$ for gas plus the ridiculous additional insurance premiums here in NYC. I paid my dues building and racing cars when I was in my teens and twenties. Now all I want to do is go fast when I can and relax in the open air when the weather cooperates.

Meh I tend to agree with both of you. I'm an enthusiast and respect anyone who shares my passion for automobiles regardless of what's under the hood. That said I think it is quite pathetic for someone to own a car as a status symbol especially when they think a base mustang convert is the car to be envied. It's like buying a fiero and applying Ferrari stickers thinking every one around you is jealous. Haha what a joke.

Yes, that part IS a joke. Of course, owning a car at any level as a status symbol or to make other people envious is a joke as well. If someone feels that they need to make other people envious of them, for any reason, there are a lot of issues going on.

That said, I think there is some definite trolling going on.
