limited slip differential question for S550 mustangs

Well, the Trac-Loc that's in these cars hasn't changed much since they started stuffing them into Mustang 8.8s in 1985.

Since then, there have been folks that run them on the street daily then rip 8 to 10 second quarter miles on the weekends.

The new Torsen version doesn't have clutches that wear but it's also not tune-able like a clutch pack is. Depending on your friction material and clutch stack, you can go from well mannered street to much heavier load for racing.

I'm sure that there might be good reason for choosing one over the other but really don't think longevity or durability are the issue you're looking for to make that choice.

Conditions where wheels might leave the ground regularly (say, a road course) would be better suited to a Trac-Loc ans one wheel wouldn't be allowed to just run away. Otherwise, I could see an argument for the Torsen style of differential lock. The differences would be similar to comparing an Eaton to a Trac-Loc.

That really is news to me. Granted it is no longer a daily driver but my last clutch pack (arranged with the extra clutch disk from the previous pack) is very alive and well after 17 years being pushed by more than 500 crank HP and 600 crank TQ. There are many dudes here making that kind of power or more that drag them often. I can't recall seeing/hearing anyone who has broken one. Never see a pic of one either.

If anyone has images of one of these things coming apart, I would like to see them.
