I have noticed for the last while that when I accelerate in 2nd or 3rd gear that there is a little bit of hesitation, not anything too bad, but enough to get my attention. Its like it will accelerate hard, back off a bit, and then accelerate hard again. I have 61k miles on the car and I am on top of all of the maintenence, except I haven't change the spark plugs. The only mod I have done was added a magnapack catback. What could be the cause?

If you're overly anal about scheduled maintenance like most of us are, then you're about 31,000 miles behind on spark plugs .. try changing those and see if it does anything for you.. if not, fuel filter is also a great recommendation.

I've just started noticing similar things.. I'd go with the fuel filter also. Sometimes it wont crank up first try on random days.. so it leads me to believe tis the fuel filter.

I agree with sgarlic, throw some new plug in.
Use some SeaFoam first...

Well I am going to change the spark plugs. I hope that is all it is. I just changed the fuel filter 6 months ago so I doubt its that and I use seafoam every other oil change. This car is really starting to piss me off. Just when I solve one problem, five more noises, rattles, bangs, and pops start to happen....

My 02 does the same thing. I can be at a red light, when it turns green and I start to go, it will hesitation or "bog" until it hits around 2k RPM.

Just out of curiosity, does your 02 have the hard starting problem after the car sits for a short time? I can get gas, and when I go to start it, the engine will just turn over and not start -- then after trying it will spit/sputter to life. I am wondering if these problems are related in some way.

Couldn't hurt. I'd do the seafoam, plugs, and if nothing is different, try a bottle of Lucas fuel treatment, and check all of the COPs' resistances, to see if they are all within tolerances. You might have one on the way out.

well you can add my 02 to the list of hesitation but I also have a lean pop/miss to go with it. I have a crap load of parts on the way to "throw" at it that have been recommended to me. I have had 2 mechanics look at it and that didnt help...lol. I have replaced all CoP's due to all mine were out of spec and crank sensor, cam sensor, plugs, fuel filter, cleaned MAF. After I do something I get a glimpse of this car's power and cant wait to cure it. I will update what I find is the cure in the end but I will say all the stuff I have done has been like "peeling an onion with a bad spot" and evertime I replace something it removes a "layer" off so I will get there soon.

Plugs, fuel filter, seafoam all 3 ways, clean MAF, reset PCM (do PCM reset last)
