Local Paper says all Stangs at INVOICE!!!

I was laughing at the ad today in the paper where a local ford dealer is selling all Stangs at Invoice......
I see that they have 1 GT and 20 V6s.........................
I felt let me see if any other Local dealers in the NorthEast os Pa and NJ area have any GTs in stock....
Yes they all have about 1 V6 to 20 V6s in stock per dealer....
Maybe 4 Stang Gts within a 100 miles area.......But many V6s.....
So as I see it,it has to be about 20 V6s to maybe 1 GT......
Let me know if I am wrong,and if I am right then the resale will be a bit higher on our tradeins...JT

Well, I think Ford has a real problem with the Mustang.

As you noted, dealer lots are packed with V6s.

What's the problem? It's that, although the Mustang GT has hit a cord with gearhead customers, the average, non car freak, customer, who in the past would have bought a Mustang V6 is passing over the V6 Mustang and buying imports instead.

It's the core problem with the US auto makers. There are not enough gearhead customers to go around. The average customer doesn't give a crap about the Mustang's heritage or hip factor. They prefer to buy an import brand with better fit & finish, comfort and convenience features and perceived better long term quality.

I ordered my 05 Stang GT in May 2004. I got it in October 04 - the first one that the dealer got! I paid $1000 over Invoice. I never wanted to be in the position of saying "wow, I wish a coulda had a V-8"!

Since Thanksgiving my local dealer has been selling the GT with a $2500 off sticker and since the new '05 came out they have always sold at sticker or less with never any over invoice and they still can't sell the cars. I look around every Sunday and they have the same 5 '05GTs they have since summer and they have 3 '06GTs which are the same ones since Oct. It is a area thing I guess.

Ford sales on mustangs for december were 10000+ so somebody is selling them.

10,000 / month is NOT a good sales #. That's lower than what the old SN-95 Mustang sold.

I called a few dealers in the Columbus Ohio area going back in Aug and everyone wanted over sticker for a 2005 Gt....
But really not many dealers had GTs in the Columbus area.......
Yes dealers have Loads of V6s but a few dealers will have a Gt here and there,unless you go to the south and then you will find more Gts on dealer lots.
I am sure the prices will come down if and when the Challenger comes out...
But I think the resale of our Gts will be Higher then the 1999s-2004s Gts...JT

Hit the nail on the head. By 2008 or 2009 they better put a more sophisticated V6 in there and improve the interior finish/materials, and improve the marketing.

I would think by 2008 or 2009 that the GT will have at least 320-340 HP.....
Otherwise the Challenger will be the IN car for those next few years...........JT
