Long past in Over heating

Car is a 1995 5.0 V8 Mustang GT.

The car has had the radiator replaced (new stock), water pump replaced, and engine block replaced(when my brother drove it he didn't pay close enough attention and damaged it).

The other day I was in a minor 'race' with some other mustang, I had put mine into overdrive and when I hit about 80 it started to go towards the red. By 90 it was getting close to the red so I had to back off.
So what else might be causing this over heating? I've read about the radiator might be too thin, but that was usually only in the Cobras so I'm at a loss.

Something is definitely wrong. I don't race, but let's say that LA drivers tend to be a bit "spirited" on the freeways around here. Your temperature gauge should be all the way over on the left at those speeds. Did you ever replace the thermostat? If it's getting stuck closed, coolant from the radiator isn't getting into the engine so it will overheat. Also, if one of the engine's temperature sensors is bad the computer will think the coolant is still cold and will change the air/fuel ratio to heat things up. If you have a code reader that can read engine sensors (PIDs), you can find out what temperature the computer is seeing.

Usually the gauge rests at the center after 10 minutes of driving but doesn't increase from there unless I get a little cheerie about speeding. The thermostat I don't believe was ever replaced, I can probably go to a mechanic and run it and find out the temperature it runs out.
So I can do that, anything else you would recommend I should do?

EDIT: Nevermind, the thermostat was one of the first things we had replaced the problem started happening however long ago. By the way, this has been an issue with the car for years, during the summer it'll overheat and I'm really just looking to fix it before summer gets too close.

Sounds like your engine only overheats under load so I suggest you check the ignition timing. Have you done any mods that might cause the engine to run lean?

Can be a number of problems. Check the timing as a precaution and get back to us. A new thermostat doesn't mean a good thermostat. All the autoparts stores sell Stant brand which is made in China. Pull it out, and dump it in a pot of boiling water to make sure it opens up all the way. If not, go to the dealer and buy an original one.

I know most of those thermostats are made in the USA with only a handful of them made outside the US. My dad used to work for Stant right here in FL. http://www.stant.com/Consumer-Products/

Thanks guys, unfortunately I can't work on my car until this weekend thanks to good ole' school and work. I'll try out the thermostat and the rest this weekend. To keep you guys up to date about my worn stang though today the alternator gave and i'm getting a remanfactured one.

One of the many many problems that keep popping up.

Make sure your running 50/50 antifreeze mix and not just water in the radiator.
Also make sure your radiator is full and the resovoir is where it needs to be.

On a general note, I've found that all cars go through a phase where it seems like everything is breaking. Just stick through it, all the bugs will work their way out and you'll have a car that will be reliable for years to come.
