i've got a 97 cobra and just ordered full-length bbk headers along with a shorty h-pipe. looking under the hood, the headers look difficult to get to. anybody know exactly what is involved with replacing the headers on the svt engine?
like said above drop the K, get 3 jacks....1 for the motor, one for the tranny(safety measure) and one for the crossover on the midpipe(IMO)...plan on a weekend job.
As far as power on a N/A 4v....I gained 14hp off the start....with a tune I made 294 with LT's, o/r mid, mac 2.5 cat back and a JLT CAI....301 with steeda pullies.
That would suck to do that on your back!! I have a hoist and I hate doing stuff to a car with long tubes.
Last time I held my motor up with a block of wood, the pan caved in a little bit....but my pan is a little rusty on my Cobra, I think that had something to do with it.
Pay someone to do it. It costs more but your car will be up 15x's faster. At a shop all they do is put ur car on a lift, unbolt the K member, engine and tranny, and put some type of stand under it. Then they lift your car up off of the K member. They install your headers, and drop the car back onto the K member. They bolt it all up and your ready to go. A good shop can do it in a day or less.
I think i am in the same situation..I just got an engine rebuilt and had LT installed...Getting on the motor has lead to them needing to be retightened to do me getting on it...Everyone is complaining that it is difficult to re-tighten them, is this true? i dont have any tools/lift to do it myself but the mechanic who put the car back together doesnt 'have time' to retighten as he says its a huge pain
any thoughts on this????
this is why i put a k-member on mine when the motor was out > the HOOKER long tube super comps come in three parts for a easyer in stall> the extra room from the k-member should be a life saver.
