Long Tubes

What are a decent set of long tubes. I was thinking about going with a set of macs? What do you guys think? What are easy to install, make good power, and of course sound good. Thanks for any input.

MACS may be a good company but I have never tried them. I have had BBK and will not go with them again. I would strongly suggest Kooks Headers. I would go with JBA as well. Theyre not that bad. But the real question is.....How much can you spend? What kind of power you looking into? How loud you want to run? Are you looking in the long run or short run to keep switching (although not a good idea)? There are many options to look at. Hope this helps.

bbk has one piece primary's so if you take em off you wont have to fight to get em back on. mac is junk...kooks and jba are costly i would go with ceramic bbk's had em....................couple times.

I just bought a set of used ceramic bbk lt's, they look like a pretty nice piece, one piece flange so no lineing up individual tubes. Just have to wait to see how the install goes. If you have the cash go for a good set of stainless like jba, but if you dont bbk is a good company.

I run Macs on my 331 stroker with a c-4. The drivers side goes in easy with the steer shaft removed. The pass side on the other hand, SUCKS!!! You need to unbolt the trans and move it off to the side to get the headder in place. Not fun!!!. I don't have any issues with the quality for the money. they make good power.

Ok guess Im not getting macs. Thanks guys. Oh yeah to answer slyman I am not looking to spend a lot of money so kooks are out of the question. I am probably going to buy a used set of headders. It looks like I should go with BBK. Also does any one have an X-Pipe on their car with long tubes? I was wondering how they sound? I heard they are much better for performance and are a little quieter.

I run bbks on my road track car and am very happy with them. I also had a set of really nice Macs when I was building the motor but they didn't fit with the t-sump oil pan I am using. So if your running a normal pan either mac or bbk are good. The BBKs were really easy to install and are built great.

Wow those are odd. Ok first dont get those they look custom built for something.......they aim at the ground which is wierd. Also bbks are marked with like a metal badge on the driverside header and Macs look nothing like that.

Those look like midlength headers, not long tubes. Either that, or they are a truck header. You want a header that is made for your specific application.

i have ben running the bbk long tubes for like 2 yers now...from tfs head over to my 347 stroker with afr185's....get a good set of gaskets i have the pierce seal4 good..they have never leakers...i also used stage 8 locking header bolts...i highly recommend those cause you will be retightening them often if you dont get them...the drivers side is easy as stated above with the shaft out.....if you wanna make life a little better...loosen the motor mounts jack the engine up about 3 inches..you will have to remove the starter to get the pass side in..it will take about 3 hours to install if its your first time doing it and a helping hand is well worth it to have...brand new bbk cost me around 220 and the xpipe about 200 have had no issues at all with leaking or quality......highly recommend them.....oh yea one more thing if you really wanna make it easy and your doing it alone...get a stud kit.....

I have a set on my truck, they went on very easy. Not sure how they would work out on a mustang though. On my LX i run bbk shorties, i know not the same but they went on very easy also. Maybe this helps you

Those mid lengths look like some older Headmans that my buddy had years ago. The BBK's IMO are all right for a pretty tame setup, but they only have a 2-1/2 collector so the limit power. A while back one of the mags had a dyno test of all the different BBK headers and the long tubes made just about the same power as equal length shorties. They then bolted on a set of 1-5/8 tubes with a true 3" collector and made some good gains.

As for Flowtech I personaly have had good luck with them, and the do have the 3" collector. They are the typical painted header so if you want looks the may not be for you. For $150 for them and an H pipe may not be too bad of a price. But you need to get new gaskets and possible bolts which could get you close to $200 in total. Flow techs are around $125 from Summit new so if you want an X pipe you might be better off going new. Also I do believe they offer the Flowtechs in a coated version for around $240 a set. That's what I'm going with for my car as soon as work picks up and I get a little extra $$$. I all ready have a Dr. Gas X pipe set up for Flowtechs
