Longtube header install-raise the motor?

I was searching through past threads about installing longtube headers and it seems like everyone has to lift the motor off the mounts. I really want to install them myself, but i dont have a lift nor do i really want to lift the motor in the first place. Can it be done without lifting it? The steering shaft will be out as that is being replaced as well and the starter will also be out because i need to find new bolts for it. Ideas?

Just loosen the two big bolts that secure the motor mounts to the K member and use a block under the oil pan and lift the motor that way. Steering shaft needs to be moved to the side. Removal of the starter shouldn't be nessasary, the top bolt will be much more difficult to get to with the LT's installed.

If you remove the motor mount nuts (done from under the car), you can jack up the engine really easy untill the tranny hits the body...3-4"..doesn't seem like much, but you will need it. Take it step by step and you will learn TONS about your car, and you'll find its really not that hard at all, just takes time. On a scale of 1-10 I give it a 5 only because it's a 4hour job.

My BBK's didn't need the starter or steering rack to be removed, but definatly the motor needs to be up a couple inches. I put mine in when I switched motors so it wasn't that bad. I think the drivers side has to come up from underneath and the passenger side can drop right down in. It may of been the other way around, can't remember.

Can the oil pan support the weight of the motor or is it going to bend and be damaged?

with a 2 by 4 it shood be able to support it
