Looking for a new daily driver....for 5-6 thousand

So I'm getting rid of the Ranger soon, once I fix a few things with it. I need a new daily driver. I would love a truck, but gas is killing me. It'd be nice to get a small little 4 cyl thats good on gas. I was thinking of a civic. Any suggestions ?

the 99 escort we have gets over 40 mpg, (manual tranny), and can haul some pretty good ass. Over 240k miles on it, 3 cars, a deer, and a dog have all run into it, and it still wont stop running. I dont know why Ford stopped making that car.

I say a manual focus, could be a nice lil commuter or get the saleen, svt, or roush one for some pep!

svt focus....i have 3 years before i have to think about getting a daily driver and svt focus is on my list of options, that or a used f150 or used Audi S4 (alot higher price then 5000-6000 though)
