hello I'm new here. Recently sold a full bolt on and tuned Bmw 335i (110mph 1/4 mile) and purchased a more family type car 2015 Sonata. I'm now looking to pick up a weekend type of car to fix up but am on a budget.
I love the 99-04 but from what I've been reading everyone is saying go for 2005 and newer.
Are parts the same price year to year ?
Is it hard to catch up to the newer model as I would be saving money buying the older one ?
I also love the convertible but will it slow me down a lot ?
Any advice would be great as I have no mustang experience. Thanks

99-04 GT's use a 4.6l with the 2v SOHC cylinder head and are rated at 260hp
05-10 GT's use a 4.6l with the 3v SOHC cylinder head and are rated at 300-315hp
11-14 GT's use a 5.0l with the 4v DOHC cylinder head and are rated at 412hp

Your simply not going to be able to make the same power out of the 99-04 GT's as cheaply as you can with the newer models but for about the same price you can get a 99-04 Cobra witch uses a supercharged 4.6l with the 4v DOHC cylinder head has IRS and are rated at 320hp for the 99-01 and 390hp for the 03-04

Prices for parts from what little iv looked into it seem to be about the same for the 99-10 GT's

Convertible are heaver do to the motorized top and stiffer subframe witch dose make them a bit slower but you gain a convertible

I hope this helps a little I more or less just coped stats I found online

Ya it helps a lot thanks. Going to look into the Cobras because I know with just a pulley and a tune and maybe cai and exhaust that it can probably crack the 11s 1/4 mile with a driver and a tire
Have to see what I can pick one up for.
I also did research on the 2011 and that would be great cause that 5.0 is a beast but the prices are a bit high still
