Well I want to get a helmet for autocrossing but dont want to spend too much. I hear getting one from a motorcycle shop would be fine but what should I be looking for to be able to autocross?
One from a Motorcycle shop is fine. I wouldn't put too much thought into it. It's auto crossing, and you don't go very fast. 50mph is fast on an autocross course. As long as you have a helmet, they are happy.
Here you must have a Snell approved helmet. I don't remember what the current Snell numbers are but I think Snell95 is now expired and it must be Snell 98 or newer.
I don't know what motorcycle helmets you guys have in your area but here nearly all on-road motorcycle helmets are DOT approved but very few are Snell approved.
When I bought my helmet, I paid $99 for it at the Helmet Store. All the full face helmets in there were Snell approved. I wasn't aware that there was a full face helmet that wasn't Snell approved. But definately look for that when you buy one. It has a Snell sticker on it, usually on the back of the helmet.
yeah, pretty hard to find a helmet thats not snell aproved. with the exception of those cheap harley half helmets, say "for novelty purposes only" inside, haha.
