Looking for new pipe, suggestions?

02 gt with BBK CAI, flowmaster catback.
I've heard with x pipe I'll loose some low end but add to the top but I'm not really concerned about high end i mean its a mustang after all I'm all about low end. Would aftermarket H pipe be better? I want nice sound too but nothing TOO loud.. what do you guys think?

If you're mainly looking for good sound, get an O/R H pipe, especially with chambered mufflers like Flowmasters. I like the way my X sounds but I'm swapping to an H when I do longtubes here soon

I do have flowmasters I'm just looking at midpipe. It looks like I will be looking for an H pipe but don't know where to go looking for one or which ones to look at

Any brand will do. IF it were me, id get a cheap one from summit racing. The expensive ones make the same power as the cheap ones, all it is is 2.5" piping...the x-pipes supposedly make better power (we're talking like .5-1hp here) and they sound different as well. The x-pipe will sound more raspy while the h pipe's sound more deep.

Really it depends on if you want cats or not. A midpipe with cats is going to cost 2 or even 3 times what the offroad ones cost but they will be legal when it comes inspection time.

BBK makes nice exhaust parts, so does pypes, mac, slp...theres a bunch of different brand really it just depends on how much you want to spend. If you're looking for the best bang for your buck just settle on a cheap one...thats my opinion at-least. Results are results, the only thing you may run into with a cheap one is fitment issues.

I'd prefer to leave off the cats if I'm going to change the mid pipe but since I wouldn't be able to pass inspection how hard is it to "swap" midpipes to be able to get thru inspection every so often? I've heard they are bolt ons and not welded?

Its not too hard, if you know what you are doing and have done it a couple times it should only take an hour or so.

And i agree with the above posts, the mac prochamber is nice! I wish i had gotten one instead of my bbk shorty H. Basicly its like an H pipe with a square chamber sorrounding the H, anyway supposedly it makes better power and it has a different sound but not quite as loud.

yes just make sure you don't get the shorty version, they are for longtubes, you want the regular one.

If that is the case you will probably be alot happier sticking
with a H pipe.
I recommend the MRT H pipe because I know it will bolt right up
to your Flowmaster catback exhaust.My friend has the same
set up and fitment was just fine.

Deft - you said for the most part you'd recommend going cheap since it's just 2.5in piping (and I agree that makes sense) but than what is the difference between aftermarket and stock assuming all components are the same?

First of all the stock midpipe is 2.25' diameter (not that it makes a huge difference)

The main difference is in the catalytic convertors. The stock midpipe has 6 cats on it! That is some major restriction, plus the stock cat's are very restrictive to begin with. Your aftermarket midpipes are either cat-less or they have 2 high flowing cats and are much less restrictive.

All in all, the aftermarket midpipe is going to yield the best hp results out of any bolt-on modification.

Nothing is Wrong with the stock exhaust. But if you want more power, there is a lot to be freed up with an aftermarket setup, not to mention a different sound...

I love my Prochamber!!! I get tons of compliments about it, and I like the fact that it is a little bit different than the typical H-pipe with Flows sound. It still has the low grumble in the low RPM range, but it SCREAMS at WOT, and I love it!

While I do probably like the sound of an H-pipe a teeny tiny bit better, I like the fact that the Prochamber is a bit quieter. My granddad has a 01 GT w/ an offroad H and Flows, and it is LOUD, too loud for my taste. The Prochamber is just a bit quieter, but it is still very audible. My friends say that they can almost always tell when I'm coming to pick them up, even when I'm a couple of blocks away.

Way less drone with the Prochamber as well. And about the low end torque, I noticed quite a gain actually. With the Prochamber and a programmer, I dropped .15 seconds in my 60'.
