First of all let me specify. I'm not looking for a complete rotating assembly, just pistons, rings, bearings, gaskets, rod bolts etc. Also i want forged pistons, I've looked at DSS kits and the pro kit with flat tops seem to be about what im looking for. Does anyone know of any other sites that offer a good reasonably priced kit like this? If so i would like to look at other sites offerings. I'm just wanting to build a nice street motor, I have to drive this car everyday and i dont have the money at the time to buy a complete new rotating assembly. Thanks for any help guys.

DSS and CHP(Coast High Performance) are good large scale makers.

Also a guy on here had good deals on stuff from what other members have said who used him first hand. RNHperformance...I forget his screen name though.

Also there is the ol' summit rebuild kits and stuff.

yeah i was wondering about the summit rebuild kits, I wanted to know about exactly what the pistons in these kits are like. Are they pretty much stock style replacement pistons?? i mean aside from being forged. I am pretty interested in the kit from summit that ups the compression a little to 10.13:1. Bottom line are the pistons and actually the kit as a whole a good dependable kit?

IIRC the pistons are the old TRW (now sealed power) pistons, and they were the stock forged piston in the 5.0 that had forged pistons (pre 93).

The stock pistons were preaty good.

what kit would you reccomend, the dss kit or the summit kit? I see you(blksn955.o) have a dss shortblock, so you have some experience with Dss products any feedback on them?

I got a dss shortblock as well and it turned out great. No leaks from the block, machining great, customer service is great, etc.

I love mine. Great so far other than sorting out other issues like the valvetrain that was not thier fault though.

I have some pics of the shotblock if want to see what you get with a shortblock. I kept adding and going over costs of buying a built shortblock or building one. After mach. and everything else its just a hard package to beat. It was like 2,200-ish shipped to my door.

Now I also want to add that I feel that my DSS shortblock is plenty strong for my setup and goals. Had I gone stroker or boost or much bigger shot and I sug. a better block.

sweet deal i think i will go with the DSS kit and reuse my rods and crank then. Thanks for the advice guys.

IIRC DSS uses sealed power blanks for thier pistons, The mach. is all done in house CNC.

+1 for DSS. if your tearing it down though, i would bore it out .030 over and get some extra power out of it/freshen up the cylinder walls. also recommend their main stud girdle and windage tray. really nice quality billet items.

Yeah for sure i will use .30 pistons to clean up the cylinder walls. The only thing i like better about the dss kit is the pistons dont seem to be as big and heavy as the sealed power kit. blksn95 thats pretty interesting, i figured they used some other pistons and cnc'd them. Did dss tell u this??

read it someplace? A blank is just that. A blank non-worked piston right out of the forge. From there its up the CNC program for the design of the piston.
