looking in to a new cam

What are you trying to accomplish with your new cam? Do you want a rattier idle, more low end or more high end? Are you trying to overcome a problem somewhere like low flowing heads or intake? Is the car a daily driver, weekend warrior or race track only? Do you still have power accessories that require vaccum? Do you have any idea of desired lift, duration or LSA? Are you going to change the springs or are you willing to change the springs? There's a whole lotta cams out there and they all change the way your car sounds and runs.

MarylandStang's questions are great - those are the kind of questions you need an answer to before you start thinking about what cam will get you there. I'll add - with a 347 stroker, a soon-to-be-blown one at that, I'd strongly consider a custom cam. The 302-based cams are gonna behave differently in a larger displacement motor. A custom designer will model your set up so that you'll have some certainty about what you put in and how it's gonna perform BEFORE you put it in.

It just doesn't make sense to me to have invested all the $$$ you will in the stroker and blower, and then to simply 'guess' on the cam ("I've heard alot of nice things about Anderson's cams.") - reputation alone, or even how one performs in someone else's different combo is no way to select a cam.

speaking of cams... what are the FTI cams? Do you just call them up and tell them your combo and they cut a custom one? Do you have to change it out if you go to a different setup? And does anyone know how much they cost?

Ed Curtis is the cam guru there. They'll have a worksheet for you where you provide all the info they need to optimize a cam for your components and performance desires. Buddy Rawls also does customs, and there are a handful of other people on the site that do. Letting Buddy do a custom for me was one of the best moves I made in terms of having my engine perform the way I wanted it to.

As to cost - ask the suppliers how much they're charging. Anytime a set up is changed (from a flow perspective) it affects things. Custom or not - if you go changing the set up, there's an impact on how the cam reacts with the new set up. Whether or not you need a different cam depends on how much you changed the set up and how optimal you want your cam to be.

just leave the current cam in until you supercharge it. Once you sc it, then get a custom cam from FTI. They are $325.

Changing the rear gear won't change the power band of the engine; it'll simply let the engine get to the heart of the power band more quickly. If you've lost low end on a stroker with a mild cam like the TFS1, well, I'm not quite sure what to make of that....sounds like it's not running right.
