Well, i want to get a Tremec TKO 600 for this Christmas. I did a little search on both the TKO 500 and TKO 600, and it looks like the 600 is more strong. I'm not an expert on this field, and i need some advise. Which spline to get, do i need to change my King Cobra Clutch, I also have a FMS aluminum drive shaft ( do i have to change the yoke). What mods do i have to make or what parts do i have to get along with the Tranny. Where can i get the best price on one of this babies. Thanks rick

The 600 has a manditory 26-spline input shaft, while the 500 has an option of either a 10-spline or 26. If you get the 600 you will definately need a new clutch disk, but if you get the 500 you don't need a new clutch if you go with 10-spline. 10-spline is rated to 500lbs/tq, and 26-spline is 600lbs/tq. Other than that they are the same, except for the gear ratios. The 500 has a 3.27 1st, and the 600 has a 2.87. I have the 500 with 26-spline option and a spec stg 3 clutch and I love it. For your setup I would go with the 600 or ever consider a T-56 so that you will get more "gear" out of it. You are stroked and running a blower so the 600 would be ideal, especially with 3.73s in the rear. You will need a new drive shaft yoke, new x-member (you can always modify your stock one), new mount, and bell housing.

i though you couldnt stand your stage 3? maybe im thinking of someone else.

I have the 600 as well same setup as my droptop buddy i love it too.

If your not going to go crazy the most cost effective way is to go with the 500 w/ 10spline input as suggested.

good luck and wise decision

The first 1000 miles were rough and I could not stand it for a while. The main reason was because my clutch kept slipping out of adjustment due to a faulty firewall adjuster. I switched to a Fiore adjuster a few weeks back and all is well now. The clutch is still a little much for the street but I am use to it and like it.

I have heard nothing but good about the TKO 600. I know of three other guys who have them. 2 foxes, and an '01 GT. All of them are weekend warriors and their trannies are holding everything they throw at them!

O.k, I called three places this morning.
1st. D&D price TKO 600 $1,649 with yoke, Aluminum Bellhousing $169. Shipping $69.00
2nd. Modularmusrangracing price TKO 600 $1,649, yoke $59.00, shipping $92.00. Didn't even bother to ask for bellhousing.
3rd. Muscle Motors Performance. Package price $2,300, includes TKO 600, stronger bellhousing, yoke, spec 3 clutch and shipping.

MMP also told me that if i don't want to go with a spec 3 clutch, i can go with a Centerforce dual friction and they will give me a better price.

I got my TKO-500 and bell housing from D&D for $1720. I got the yoke and x-member from Mustangs Unlimited for $110. I got an energy suspension poly trans mount for $30, and I got the spec stg 3 from JDSPerformance for $285 (ordered a stg 2 and was sent a stg 3!). Add it all up at it comes to $2145 plus shipping with was under $100 total for everything. I also got a Fidanza aluminum flywheel off ebay for $280 shipped.

Anybody have any first hand experience with a spec stage 3 and a stage 3+ clutch? I wonder how the two clutches compare in terms of pedal feel.

you mean the older and newer stage 3 or like a stage 4?

I HAD both new and old stage 3's and they were both pretty much the same.

I'm assuming the older stage three is just called the Stage 3 and the newer one is called the Stage 3+. Spec's site says it can take more power than the stage 3and has a softer feel. I'm not talking about the stage 4.

Seems like muscle motors and D&D have the best prices so far. i made up my mind as far as the clutch, Spec 3. What kind of mods do i have to make to the crossmember to make the TKO 600 fit. Also I'm staying with my flywheel, I'm just going to send it to get it resurface.

good decision, dont whine about your stage 3 untill you break it in a little and learn how to drive. on my car the diff b/t full grip and totaly off free is about a 1/16th of an inch(it feels like), but when you get used to it, You'll learn where it slips and it will be just like a stocker

see if you can talk muscle motors down a bit, They came down on my stuff from what they quoted me. But i baught my blower at the same time
