Hello i am new to the board and i am wanting to get a mustang. My 79 f150's mpg isnt so good (imagine that) and i need something that i can drive around in and have fun and i am a ford man so of course i want a stang. the mustang wont be driven in snow and crappy weather because i am not going to sell my 79 f 150. Ya i thought about focus for the gas mileage and everything but i really want a mustang. Problem is i live in south dakota and lets say there are not too many mustangs around here for sale. I want a 94+ mustang w/ a v8 and preferably a manual. I have found 2 cars in sd that i am going to check out one being a white 96 w/ 69k mile with some rims, tint, badges and exhaust work. i havent looked under the hood yet though so unsure of what has been done to engine. they are asking 10k for it and lets just say i am not a big fan of the dealership as are many people in the town. the book on it is around 7500 if i remember correctly so i may stop in and see what it is all about as soon as i find the time to. i was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on places to look fairly close to sd. also opinions on the 4.6 vs 5.0, i am pry opening a can of worms by asking about the engines but i have always heard good things about the good ol 5.0 and i have never been around the 4.6 but i have heard it is not as powerful as the 5.0. My price range is under 10k. would like to stay under 8k if possible (the rest of the money will go for the insurance which pry isnt going to be too cheap :( ). thanks for any help and opinions guys i really appreciate it!

Get a 99+ and you'll be better than any other production, stock GT that had a 5.0 prior to it. The 4.6 is solid--why do you think Crown Vic's (police intercepters) have had them for years?!

While the 99+ 4.6's are quicker, that does not make them "better" by any means. And the whole 4.6's are solid thats why cops use them, remeber the 5.0 fox bodies were used as police vehicles too...

My opinion, if you want a newer model v8 please get a 99+ 4.6... completely skip over the 96-98 4.6 mustangs as they offer a lot of headache when major power is the objective. Alternatively, check for 5.0 fox bodies (not awesome on gas though). They are cheap and an easy engine to learn how to mod.

I've thought about selling mine numerous times due to college. Its quick, and in decent shape. If you are actually interested you can PM me.

I never said they were better, per se, just a good option over most used alternatives out there in the Mustang market.

well i would LOVE a 99 or newer mustang, but i dont think i could get one for 10k which is my limit on spending. I am not looking to make major power. if i do any add ons they will be simple inexpensive ones. i will pry not use nitrous or anything like that. i like the 94+ body style compared to the fox bodies. so are you saying a 94-95 with a 5.0 is better than a 96-98 4.6? i am going to go look at a white 96 on monday hopefully. it has already had some customizing done to it that i can see from the outside (rims tint etc) plus it has a dual exhaust. i havent got to look under the hood or test drive it yet.

I would take a 94-95 over a non-PI 96-98 any day. But, you can find some deals on 99+ GT's if you know where to look, are patient, and run anything through a CarFax report. :D
Ok thats what i thought. That is one reason i found this site i was hoping someone would know where to look and could point me to a good place. i have checked dealer sites throughout south dakota and a few out of state, and have checked local classifieds and what not but there is just not a whole lot of stangs around here for sale really, if there are they are usually v6's of course. i have also been thinking about buying the carfax thing too. might not be a bad idea i suppose for $25 or w/e it costs could save me some problems. plus then i may get money back by checking cars out for friends so the cost would be offset somewhat anyways.

Post your carfax request in one of the Talk forums before you buy it--someone here might have already done so and will be very likely to help you out for free. It's a community, man!

Anyone know of any good places around to find a mustang around south dakota (somewhere in midwest)?
i got a 94 gt with a 5 spd, 6pt cage with swing out door bars, corbeau legacy seats, and lots of spare parts from my 95 cobra. i was planning on putting it on ebay in a couple of weeks, pm me if you are interested. $3500.

honesty i just dont know about the foxes. there are some nice looking ones but i prefer the newer style to them. the white 99 gt is exactly what i want. now if i can find time and someone to go with me down to check it out (around 400 miles away i think). if that one doesnt work out there is a black 01 about an hour or two away from the white 99 gt. we will see. i have my fingers crossed!
