Loop hole in DEQ with DMV/DOT ????? Worth the try...IMO

Ok So we have h pipes on both the 90 and 91. before I took off the cats last year (march 03' ) I took both cars through deq. Now the slips are over a year old and I though what the heck Ill try it, SURE enough. the lady at the d.o.t in vancouver( 137th & mill plain) didnt even look at the date, just the word "passed" I dont even think she looked at the vin.make or model.

So, you stangers that have to do the deq thing and have an old slip try it might be suprised.

Ohh hey I couldl rent out my 2 deq slips- a 90 gt and a 91 gt.

What's DEQ and how does the emission testing work here?

IN WASHINGTON you have to to a deq- they test the emissions that your car puts into the air. the stangers that take off the cats and go straight h or x pipe will fail. In order to get your tags renews every year you have to pass the deq test. This gets quite timley or spendy as you will have to put your stock exhaust off and on every year.

Im sure I will be corrected by someone.. this might not me 100 accutate but pretty damn close. I also think 78 and older do not have to take the deq.

Ok, sounds similar to back in CT before they stopped testing. I see the cutoff is 25 years old ... so still a few more years of being tested. Is this done on a dyno or just a sniffer? Underhood visuals or just check for cats? Tailpipes required? Any more info?

Thanks!

it is now dyno in WA state, no visuals, just sniffer while on dyno. idle and cruise speeds.

Depending on the vehicle and set-up a non Cat car MIGHT pass though it woudl be a stretch. IT is $15 a test, might be worth at least giving it a try WELL in advance of your registration date. I a prety sure unlike OR, WA has a 3 or 6 month limit on emissions tests.. plus they are now online active, so they match it up if you use online tag renewal and I believe even in person.

emmisions must be for you Puget Sound/I-5 corridor people because none have my vehicles have ever been tested nor have I recieved anything in the mal to get it done. Maybe I am just lucky. :D
Luck has nothing to do with it. Some counties/cities do not require deq tests. Anything close to major cities and bend over for the sniffer! My uncle used to register his cars in skagit co so he wouldn't have to test his cars.

So does anyone know why my 83 ranger didn't need to go into emissions? It's a 21 year old diesel, does that count for anything?
Because it is a diesel.
No testing due to the fact they had to change the sniffer filter every other test or so or they failed. Basically it got too expensive for them and and too much of a headache from failed complaints that they dropped it.
