If you are in WA then you are not due for emissions till NEXT year anyways, so this year you would not get a notice...

Depending on the vehicle and set-up a non Cat car MIGHT pass though it woudl be a stretch.

I passed the sniffer with with N20Jnky and no cats without much problem... The first time I was sniffed I failed, so I set the timing way back, ran the tank down to 1/8 and then added 6 bottles of Heat... Passed with excellent numbers... I also kept the car running the entire time to make sure that the O2 sensors were well heated...

I would definately try a couple months in advance... It only cost you $20 bucks and if you pass your done, if not you can try a couple modifications and then if you fail you can put the cats back on the car....

it only cost $15 for the deq thing. but also keep in mind that if you dont pass they will refund youre $15 on the spot and you can keep doing this till you do pass. so if you fail youre not out $15 everytime you go. peace

Luck has nothing to do with it. Some counties/cities do not require deq tests. Anything close to major cities and bend over for the sniffer! My uncle used to register his cars in skagit co so he wouldn't have to test his cars.

Yup... never had to do it in my county. My roommate last year was from Everett and she got all irritated because she couldn't find a place in Pullman to do her emissions test... the closest was Spokane. It was funny because she never got far enough out of her bubble to know that not everyone in the state has to do it...

Thats not a bad idea, as I've also seen them just look at the slip for only a second.

Hmmmm.... apparently I got screwed cause the first time mine failed they DID NOT refund the $$ on the spot... This is in Snohomish County... They also said that I would need to pay the $$ each and every time I was sniffed... Maybe it varies by county, or maybe hey just pocketed the $$... Either way... It was worth $20 for me to not have to screw with the cats...

So does anyone know why my 83 ranger didn't need to go into emissions? It's a 21 year old diesel, does that count for anything?

Diesels are exempt from testing.

Don't forget WA emissons also sniffs your gas cap and the local Schucks Auto parts store loves it !!! Cap fails, they make you buy a new one !

Secret on a 5.0 is dump the timing, no way your are going to pass at 16 degrees.

I don't think so. In spokane, they take your 15 bucks and if you fail, the next one, and only the next one is free. All your test after the 2nd are 15 bucks every time.

From what I hear, its gonna be a long while before it happens...
