loose mirror need help!

Hello all,
I need some help. I restored my car about 5 years ago and now the driver's side mirror head is loose. I dont remember how it is. can I tighten it at the top by removing the two phillips screws, or does the door panel have to come off?
It is the "power" mirror with the cable.

I' not sure if I totally understand your question, is the mirror part loose at the junction to the bracket or is the bracket base loose where it mounts to the car? If the bracket base is loose from the car, you can either take the two mounting screws loose, remove mirror, redrill the sheetmetal 3/8" forward or back and screw back on, or what I did was take off the door panel and put a couple pieces of predrilled sheetmetal inside the door for the screws to bite in to, since the holes in the door skin had been wallowed out and wouldn't hold the screws. That worked pretty well for me.

if it's the stock driver's side cable adjustable mirrior, there are two adjusting screws .... one (the obvious one) is located on the "ball head" that faces forward .... the second is located up under the "shaft" that leads from the base to the head .... the first allows adjustment of the mirror within the housing .... the "hidden" one allows in-out adjustment of the entire head .... I would guess it is this one that has worked loose as it did on mine .... if it's the mounting screws, the original used threaded/hidden nuts that can be purchased from several sources .... you may be able to use these in place of sheet metal screws .... one type looks like a molley bolt sleeve .... hope this helps ....

I appreciate your help. The mirror head is loose where it rests on the base plate on top of the door.I will take a picture when I get home to clear up any confusion.

If I understand correctly, the screw you are looking for is kinda tough to get to, if you push the bottom of the mirror as far as it will go, there is a hole at the bottom of the housing that will allow you access to the screw I think you are talking about. That was the one I had difficulty finding until I accidentally moved the mirror just right to reveal the hole.

It was the screw at the bottom of the mirror head. I was just afraid I would have to remove the door panel.
THis is by far the best message board of all time.

3 years later I have the same problem - flimsy repro mirror. the two screws hold the lower part firmly at the door. Just the upper part is flimsy.

There is one screw from the front which is not loose. So where is the other screw? Do I have to remove the mirror assembly from the door to get access to it?

it is 1967 model.
