I drive a 99 convertible and today I went driving with my top down. When I got back to my apartment I was putting the top up and when I tried to latch the passenger side it didn't hook. I looked over at it and saw that the little bar that the hook latches onto is gone. Has anyone ever had this problem before and would ford have that part? I tried calling the local dealership, but it was closed, being that it's Sunday.

For more clarification as to what piece is missing, it is the little metal bar above the visor.

Thanks in advance.

Well I'm glad it's such a well documented and common problem or I might nervous.

I guess I'll just call Ford tomorrow to see if they can help me, if they can't I'll just go to a junk yard.

I feel kind of proud that I posted a problem on stangnet that couldn't be answered, but in the same way that Lou Gehrig would be proud of having a disease named after him.

this is a weird one... anyways, i think you would have to replace the whole plastic thing that is attached up there by three screws... i was working in the same area today and i noticed that mine was cracked a little... probably by the ford tech who was changing my insulation... which was still leaking after the repair

Okay, I called my local Ford dealership about this part and they said it's going to cost $37. I can't even begin to understand how a small piece of material costs that much. I was wondering if anyone knew of an online store that might carry this part. Thanks, and the part number is f4zz76515a32a.

Hey Jfanoe,

this same part that you are missing is the same part that is coming lose on mine. The metal bar or handle that you use to latch on the top, the passenger side one on my convertible is loose and I am afraid that it will eventually come off, but 37 dollars? Mine is a 03, but I have also seen the same thing on a friend's 99 GT. Does anybody know where this handle can tightened?

Check 5.0 resto. I have seen their ads and it looks like they have a boatload of vert parts for a fair price. Just my 2 cents.

I've never seen that happen, but the pin on the driver's side comes loose every now and then when the top is down and I have to screw it back in, I know one day I will lose it.

I'm talking about the little bar on the frame of the car, right above the visor.

Chances are the missing metal bar either fell out onto the floor, or slid to one side and is trapped behind the assembly or behind the "A" pillar garnish molding (which pulls right off). I would look for it before trying to buy a new one.

I agree - chances are its in your car, either in the floor, or maybe it went with the top into the back???

You can try Ford Parts.

Is that a valid part number? Parsing it out, I think it would be F4ZZ-76515-a32a which is too many suffix characters, no?
