So. Cal. V-Town
I have not been romping on my car much from a stop as of lately and today on the way home this moron in a riced out altima revs on me. So naturally I put it in first, take the RPM's up to about 2k and push it at the light. Tires break loose a bit so I back off and slowly pull til 2nd than waste him once I hit about 3500 RPM's.

Problem is this, my car use to pull a hell of a lot harder off the line but since the PI intake swap and addition of the X-pipe my car seems to have lost low end TQ. Is my car breathing too good now? I want that off the line snap back and don't want to move to 4.10's. Will cams be the key or do I just need a tune? Any help/advice will be appreciated.

Thanks.......

i think you need a tune. im not sure, but doesnt switching to the PI intake need a new tune? i would think that it does due to the hp gains and possibly it changing your A/F ratio. i would get a dyno pull and see whats up.

I don't see the headswap having a negitive power effect @2000rpm, and your X-pipe is catted, and I don't see that robbing too much tq @2k.

I agree with Bullitstang, maybe you should try tuning it.

The x pipe will take away from low end torque and give you more power up top. I dont think cams will really help down low, but up top they will be awesome. You already have 3.73's so I can understand why you dont want 4.10's. Do what everyone else is saying and get a tune. Good luck.

X pipe definately frees up your top end but takes away a little of the low end. Since you already have 3.73s, try a torque converter (if you're an automatic)

Yeah, I was hoping to stay away from a tune til I at least did my cams. It seems as though I should get it tuned sooner than later though. Oh well maybe I'll get a T/A and have the timing bumped up.

Ive heard of big power gains on the low end with timing adjusters. Like ~10rwhp/12rwtq with a simple +4 degrees. For around $120 thats a great deal, and its tunable to allow you adjust for hotter/cooler weather, and run whatever timing is best for you.

Is it easy to adjust yourself, or should you have it tuned and adjusted at the same time to adjust the A/F?

It takes 3 minutes and can be adjusted by yourself. For instance, say you are running +5 degrees of timing, and today is an especially hot and humid day. You want to knock the timing down a few degrees to prevent detenation, you can do that yourself, easily.

The thing about timing adjusters is that you can't fine tune them in specific RPM incriments. You advance the timing across the ENTIRE rpm range. With a chip, you can fine tune it to add a little timing here, retard timing there, all throughout the RPM range. But then again, a chip/tune will cost a LOT more than a timing adjuster, and unless your HIGHLY modded, the gains of it over a t/a arent going to be near worth the money.

Timing adjusters and chips reminds me of Fuel Pressure Regulators and Air Fuel Controllers. One (FPR) adjusts base fuel pressure X amount across the entire powerband, while the other (AFC) allows you to fine tune fuel pressure in 500/1000rpm incriments.

I hope that helps you out, and makes some sense.

Blev, just my .02. I see that you did the Speedcal. Have you thought about getting an SCT tuner or using EFI solutions through T&J?

Granted I installed my SCT tune about week or so after having the 3.73's put in, but the chip definitely gave me some more SOTP low end power. Also, dont know how much it would affect you, but being a fellow Cali guy. Those Steeda T/A's are not CARB legal :notnice: So maybe if you know somebody, ill bet the Timing adjuster would help, if not that route, then a fuel chip should help you regain some of the low end torque.
