Hi Everyone,
I was getting onto the an on-ramp the other day and hit my brakes and discovered that my power brakes were gone. If I press very very hard they will work a little bit, but still not much bite. Curiously at the same time I started hearing a hissing sound coming from my engine bay and my idel became very choppy? Any ideas on whats causing this? Thanks in advance!

one of your vaccum lines came disconnected. probably the line that goes to your brake booster. check that line and check the vaccumm tree that is mounted on your firewall. You say you here a hissing and you lost your brakes. Your brake booster works off of vaccum so if the line came off or the main (big hose coming from intake and supplying vac tree) line came off then your gonna have a major vacuum leak which will cause a very eratic idle. go out and start the car and find out which line is leaking. follow that hisssing and report back

Thanks for the response. I followed the hissing and it is the vacuum line that runs to the fire wall. Can't believe I missed that!

Anyway, I reconnected it and the car worked fine for a few miles and then the hissing was back. I checked the line and it is pretty rotten, is there anywhere that sells replacements?

yeah. napa sells every single line you need. Cut a peice off of every line you want to replace and bring it in to match up the size. They have the stuff on spools in the back and the stuff is pretty cheap. I would take off the upper intake if i was you and replace all those old lines. thats the first thing i did a while back. That way you dont have to worry about this again
