ever since i got my mustang (87 lx 5.0) it has vibrated alot above 3k. The car has solid motor mounts but when i am draggin it the whole car is shaking and it feels like its about to blow up if it shakes any harder. Would solid motor mounts cause it to vibrate this bad? I was thinking the harmonic balancer is bad, what do you guys think?

IT COULD POSSIBLY BE THE SOLID MOTOR MOUNTS BUT ALSO MAYBE YOUR DRIVESHAFT IF IT IS MORE AT HIGH SPEEDS. IT COULD BE OUT OF BALANCE.

vibration

It is not so much at high speeds but at high rpm no matter what gear I'm in.

Maybe ( probably) your balancer. Check it out before it gets too bad and wants to shear the key, you won't have much fun changing it then

I don't know much about the harmonic balancer, I would look into that also, but look into the driveshaft, if it is balanced correctly.

Might be a good excuse to get a new aluminum driveshaft.

if the vibes happen independant of movement (it vibrates while the car is not rolling), that suggests balancer or a mount. i dont have solid mounts and dont know how they feel.

balancer wise, check it out. dont drive with a bad one!

the elastomer often pulls out or breaks - if either is noted, swap it. also if the outer ring has slid, get a new one.

good luck.
