Get a cat back exhaust. Problem solved, you hear the exhaust instead of the fan

Or you could go with an electric fan setup also, do a search on here and you will find multiple threads on electric fans, and jrich has a great write up that will answer any questions you may have to ask about it

you could take the fan off and run it for a few min to see if the noise persists. just don;'t run it that long

grab the fan right by the water pump. It it moves up and down then your water pump is going bad quick. If not then the fan clutch is getting ready to go out. An easy mod is a dual electric fan setup from a v6 contour or an electric from a Lincoln Mark VIII. I got the duals from a contour on my 86 and I have no more cooling issues

Check your engine mounts, too. If your engine is sagging, there's a good chance the fan could be rubbing on the shroud.
