I had a loose kind of clattering noise coming from under my car and I honestly thought I had tranny problems, but what it ended up being is the metal retainers for the rubber exhaust pipe mounts at the trans bracket location. They rattle when driving the car and it gets worst the colder it gets. I guess the metal contracts when colder. There is a TSB for this. the fix is to tighten two large hose clamps around the assemby that the hanger pins from the exhaust pipe assembly fit into. For the 4 bucks it cost me for the clamps i did this myself and the rattle disappeared, I could'nt believe it but it worked and I would never of thought to suspect this as the cause of the noise. I not saying this is your issue, but check it out, it just might be.

That was actually one of several attempted repairs that appeared on the service write up. It's not the one, apparently, that fixed the problem though (the "torque converter" cover bolts turned out to solve the problem ). The clamp TSB # is 06-4-1 for reference.

Kinsel Ford in Beaumont, Tx. All problems, fixed... whatever needed, re-flash, ... anything. Fast service from a Performance Ford Dealer. And I bought my car used from Orlando! Cant imagine what sevice would be like if I actually purchased my GT from them.

IMO... find a reputable Performance Ford Dealer.

My car does the same thing and so does my roommates Mercury couger. But when I change gears to a numerically lower gear in my mustang and in her couger the noise goes away. It seems that all I have to do is down shift 1 gear and the noise immediately goes away. Try not coasting at that speed with that rpm. It seems that these cars were built with accelerating in mind, not coasting.
