Hey everyone. I used to have a 2003 GT, but I needed an F-150....anyways...

My wife has a 2000 V6. We bought it used about 3 years ago. This may become my daily driver so I'm looking into fixing it up/mods, etc.

Before I start though I wanted to address the loud tranny. It's a 5 speed btw. When it's in nuetral, and you move it from side to side all the way, it makes a loud clacking noise. I dont know if it's clicking/banging or whatever. It sounds like the noise is coming from the tranny and you can hear it loud an clear from a good distance away from the car. Again, this is only when in nuetral and moving from side to side all the way.

I know the tranny was loud on my GT(5 speed). SOmetimes when pushing in the clutch at slow speeds it would make a clacking sound, so I never thought about it before, but now I am.

Any help is appreciated.

Cool, thanks for the reassurance. I didn't think it was anything since my GT makes all kinds of noise. Tremecs are the noisiest.\

Oh, btw, what tranny is in the 2000 v6....T5?

t5 for the v6, t45 for the GTs. Do you know if the shifter is stock or aftermarket? Its normal to have some transmission noise when shifting, but it can be a bit louder depending on the type of aftermarket shifter (if there is one).

If the car isn't even on, you'll definitely hear the "clanking" if you are just going through the shifts... road noise, engine noise, etc. usually dull that out when driving.

It's normal...I listened to some other Mustangs with the T5 and I hear the same thing.

BTW, it's the stock shifter...not for long. That thing sucks. The tri-ax in my GT was like 1000000000000x better.

Clacking

That is very normal for a manual transmission to do. That is just the linkage making the noise. Nothing to be worried about. Mine is the same way. I've had many 5spd's they all make that noise some louder than others some not much at all, but THEY ALL DO IT.
