However, this is an oddball setup. Completely understand where you're coming from, but if you have a clog in your engine block or radiator, you may have coolant in your overflow right up to the point the head gasket takes a shi**er ...
That's why we have temp gauges. Even though the stock ones are crap.

Well I guess in some cases(yours)the coolant may come out but not in mine or my buddys. I am sure there are many other things that could make the light come on All I know I had the problem for 4 Years tell I was talking to some one that worked at Ford and told me to try it before I took the car in to have a new sensor put in. I had not had the light come back on for over a year. I guess this worked for me and my coolant did not drop in the overflow bottle.

RC is right, this happens every winter AND usually in the summer.

On mine, Last year I actually had a small crack in the overflow tank (under the holding bracket) that you couldn't really see.

I've never cleaned my sensor.... cause when it comes on, I can always see the water is low. This year both of my tranny lines going into the radiator are leaking just a tad. New radiator and finally putting my tranny cooler on is next on the to do list.

there is a thread about this over on corral right now too. my mechanic also says that this is a common problem and i believe him because he has a 5.0 and many of his customers have 5.0s too. he says it is not fixable because of the way it was designed, you have to replace the radiator.

mine is leaking on both sides now, it is time for me to do mine ... everytime i take one thing off the list, there are 2 new things to put on it ...
