Low oil pressure

I'll try this again. I don't know what happened to my other post.

1989 Mustang 5.0 HO, 161k miles, convertable, just purchased.

Oil pressure about 1/4 way up guage. I will be checking the sender today.

Car was owned by an older couple (wife's car) and had regular scheduled maintenance.

Are oil pumps in these engines prone to early failure?

Can the pump be changed without pulling the engine? Thanks. joeb

need an aftermarket gauge, stock gauge can be faulty

After checking out the gauge (using a mech gauge will eliminate any electric sender issues) I would pull the oil filter off and split it open, then sell a tool to do this or you can punch a small hole then use tins snips. What you look for after you have it open is debris, bronze which is the bearings. If you have a lot of bearing material in the filter you have found your issue.
