Low oil pressure?

Hey fellas, I was wondering what the standard oil pressure is supposed to be for a 1987 Mustang GT. I seem to get about 50 psi whenever I'm cruising on the highway, and about 20 psi while at idle. So, like, are those numbers pretty close to where they should be, or are they completely off the mark?

That's sounds about normal. A good rule of thumb is 20 psi at idle and 10lbs for every 1k rpm's after that.

I just installed a high volume oil pump and autometer gauge in my car and at start up it stays aroung 50psi till the oil gets hot then lowers to aroung 20-40 psi through out the driving range.

I would get a good gauge if you are worried about it. The stock ones suck ass.

Those number sound ok. The OP in my 88 is around 65-70 at cold idle and 30 at hot idle and it jumps right up to around 55-60 as soon as you get on the gas.

Using a stock pump on my rebuild.My pressures are around those numbers(monitored by the stock gauge and a autometer one)..

use a thicker weight oil if you are worried....

mine go to about 75 at startup/WOT then is at about 50 idling. this isnt a stock 302 with stock parts though.

old engine was 50 startup and about 20-25 idling. i think it went to about 25 using 10w40 over the 10w30 i was using
