Low speed fan not turning on.

When is the low speed fan supposed to turn on? I thought it was whenever the heat or defrost was on. The reason i am asking is because i just installed a V-2SQ, now my low speed fan won't switch on when i have the defrost, heat or airconditioning switched on. I did crack an air-conditioning line right at the pressure switch connector during the install. So that was unplugged and left hanging. Do i need to have that connector plugged in to have the low speed fan turn on?

The high speed is suppose to turn on when the defrost or ac is running. It is either a broken wire somewhere, the fan connector or the fan could be bad or it's the ccrm witch is the relays for the fans. Unplug the fan connector and turn on your car with the a/c on and see if you get voltage on the connector.

umm i dont know if we'r talking about the same fan but when I'm at a redlight and most likely after I floored the car a very loud fan starts spinning for like 20 secs, normal ?

Thats just the high speed kicking on till the temps get down to where only the low speed will be fine.

Thanks bjl.... the fan kicks on when the car get's really hot now but it seems to be intermitent like sometimes it kicks on at a lower temp and sometimes at a higher temp. It will not turn on with the AC or defrost on. I will check via the fan and wires via the method you mentioned tonight when i get home from work. I am a little confused, when does the low speed fan turn on?

Some guys on the 5.0 tech forum were able to tell me when and what fan kicks on. High speed at 226 low at 208 and high with defrost and AC on. Looks like i got a electrical problem to sort out.

It depends on what the ecc is set at. I will have to look when i get home and i will geive you the on and off teps.

The fan should always run on high with the defrost or A/C on. If it's not coming on with the defrost or A/C off, you could have a bad coolant temp sensor. It's only $5 or $10, so you might want to go ahead and change it.

I just talked to a service guy with ford.... he said since i broke the line that holds AC pressure the fan will not turn on with the AC switched too on. The pressure switch is what tells the fan to turn on, so no AC pressure = no fan on. Does this sound right to those who did an AC delete? Hopefully that answers that question i had.

But that does not address the issue of the low speed fan not turning on and the high speed being intermittent. Could a bad coolant sensor do this? I still register temperature on the idiot gauge. Thanks for bearing with me guys.

I just deleted my A/C, I hope I don't have that problem....still no motor in the car so I can't help ya there.

Your temp guage will still work fine if the coolant temp sensor is going bad. I believe the CCRM reads the temp sensor so it knows when to turn the fan on, so if the sensor is not working right the fan won't come on at all, or may come on sporadically. Or the problem could be with the CCRM itself, but I would replace the temp sensor first since it's so cheap and easy to change.

just to let you know, i don't have an aftermarket gauges....( i am working on getting those asap) so your saying the temp sensor could be bad but i can still read temp on the in dash gauge.

the gauge has its own temp sender. it is located on the driver side lower intake manifold behind the dizzy. it has one wire attached to it.

the ECT is a sensor and is what tells the puter to turn the fan on (and give the puter the coolant temps). it has a couple wires attached to it (pass side of motor).

low speed comes on around 208*F and high speed around 226*.

Just curious, I would check the sensors first, but did your car have the fan recall on it? Sounds like the problem I had with my 95 GT. Fan just kinda had a mind of its own. Someone told me about a recall on the car, and when I took it to Ford, they said they had to replace the fan due to a recall. It was free for me, so I was all for it.

Just something to look into if the sensor thing is a bust.

update 2

Ok here it goes, I replaced the sensor, not the gauge sender. The fan seems to turn on when its supposed too now, thanks for the tip Low 5-0. The high speed fan still won't turn on when i have the defrost or ac switched to on, but right now i am attributing that too the ac system not having any pressure hence the pressure switch not telling the fan to turn on. All in all instead of paying 200 some dollars for a CCRM i bought the little temp sensor for 13 bucks and things seem to be back to somewhat normal. As for the recall, i thouigh the recall was only for 95's and not the 94's. Does this sound right? Anyway, Time for gauges and a dyno tune.... However, short on cash so she may stay in the garage for a bit Thanks for the help.
