Long story short - My fox has been running a little rough, and stalling upon cold starts -- Although after it warms up, it idles fairly well. I've been going through multiple tests, and noticed that the vacuum (measuring off the vacuum tree A/C) is only around 5" at idle- which is very low. If i increase the throttle, and keep it steady (at around 3500 RPM) the gauge reads around 20" vacuum which would be in spec, but drops back down when I let off. It also fluctuates somewhat between 4-9" of vacuum after...?
From what I'm reading, this could be caused by many things -- including but not limiting too -- intake leak (I already sprayed starting fluid around, and could not find a leak/make the engine rev from this), Burnt valve(s), all the way to a cracked block/head?
What I'm wondering now is what should I check next? I'm thinking....
1) Compression test cylinders(Dry & Wet) + leak down test???
2) Check fuel pressure...???
3) Check vacuum lines...? (Anyone got a good diagram/ article of what exactly to check???)
4) Check valve guides? I should know which valve too look at(if needed) after doing the compression test? Yes?
Car: 88 Mustang, 5spd, E-Cam, GT-40 heads. Timing set at 12*. TPS(new) set with-in range (.91). Has smog/air pump removed, as well as the A/C. Fairly stock otherwise.
