I would start up my mustang and my gauge would read above the the middle mark and the mustang would run great, but after a hour of stop and go and off and on, the meter starts to read low, and at night the lights are dim. but when i rev up the motor they get bright and the needle on the gauge is on the middle mark till i stop again and then it will drop and the lights go dim. i have a 130 g2 alternater, should i step up to the 200 amp g3 alternater.

do you have underdrive pulleys?

did you upgrade the wiring when you installed the alt? or was it installed when you got the car?

What is the elec connection like to supply 130 amps to the battery? The 2G uses a couple of charge wires, which should be insufficient to flow that amount of current. The 3G has a different power cable attachment.

How much do you have to rev the motor up to get the system out of a state of discharge? 100 RPM, 500 RPM, etc.

Good luck.

I'd just go ahead and swap in the 3g and the appropriate wiring. The 3g's are pretty easy to find these days, between eBay, junkyards, classifieds, etc.

A search for "jrichker" will reveal a quite informative and long post with all the info. you would need.
