is there any way to remove the ball joint on the lower control arms on a 68 coupe, or do they just have to be replaced? i cannot find anything that would cause them to detach and all of the new ones i see come with the ball joints attached as opposed to the UCA's where they are not.

The factory lower arms are designed to be replaced.
A few aftermarket vendors do produce lower control arms with replacable ball joints and bushings with a substancial price increase.

I bought a set of lca's from mustangs plus about five years ago. The ball joint could be replaced. I just bought new ones and they ball joint is welded on.
It also came non painted and had to assemble the grease fitting and boot.

they must have changed manufacturer.

As for replacing. There should be 4 bolts/rivits on the lca ball joint.

You can take a sharp chisel and hammer and break the existing rivets on your LCA ball joint. I believe Moog makes replacement LCA ball joints that will mount up on your existing LCAs.
