Lowered cobra, now the inside of the tire is wearing. Question.

I have a 93 Cobra that I put a 1.5 Intrax drop on. I did not put any other alignment parts on. Now the tire in the front is wearing as if it has major negative camber. I have dropped two SN-95's and did not add CC plates and the car aligned perfect. What do I need besides an alignment for the Fox body?

1. CC plates
2. Steeda x2 ball joints
3. Steeda bumpsteer kit

What do I need to do to get my camber straight? I don't care about caster and my tow is straight. I Just don't want to wear out another $250 Goodyear. The car is parked until I find the problem and get an alignment.

Either negative camber or toe out condition. Get some C/C plates and get the alignment correct. You might bennifit from a bumpsteer kit. I don't know about the ball joints.

C/C plate to get the alignment fixed.

Maybe some offset rack bushings to realign the streering rack back in line with the tie rods.

mine did the same...i bought 2 new tires and put on C/C plates and got it aligned...prob solved

No need to spend 150-200 dollars on CC plates. The camber can be done without it. All it takes is to elongate the stock strut plate mounting holes. Unless you are constantly changing your camber (ie, road racer), this will work just fine. Did it for years at Ford as an alignment tech. You can pull out 2-2.5 degrees of negative (or positive) camber this way.

Also, your bump steer kit/offset rack bushings have nothing to do with the alignment. All they do is prevent bumpsteer, which can be dangerous.. I know.. I got tons of it

Also -- keep in mind, when you correct the camber, it will change the toe...

I went out when I got home and threw a 90 degree square on the wheel. The left one was "boing" off. The right was straight. It was a toe problem. What sux is that the tire has gone to the cord. I Pulled the wheel, popped the tie rod end and gave it one turn in. I put the wheel on and it was exact to the other tire on the right side. Seems the car was already out of alignment, I just noticed it when I lowered it. I put the bad tire on the back and a better rear up front. I have directionals on my Cobra so I only can go front to back. I have a full set of 93 cobra wheels I am getting ready to paint and I will put new rubber on all four when I am done. I am trying to get this car ready for show and I keep getting problems. I will be showing at FFW 9 in St Louis this year. I hope bessy is ready! My wallet is thin and I still need a few more fixes. I'll throw up some pics when I get the wheels painted. Teal turbines with polished center and bead. Dark windows and blinging paint should set bessy off! Thanks for the help.

I dropped my 91 1 1/2" a few years ago...even with offset rack-n-pinion bushings and a good alignment I still eat the inside of my front tires. Any ideas? I have seen the spec sheet, my tires are aligned straight up and down on the rack.

I had the same problem when I lowered my car. I added a set of CC plates and that fixed the tire wear problem. However, I still has pretty severe bumpsteer. The offset rack bushing are a cheaper version of the correct way to fix the steering alignment via the bumpsteer kit. The bumpsteer kit will make your car drive like a different vehicle ... and make it much safer too. IMO, get some CC plates and a bumpsteer kit and be done.
