Ok here is the story....... I work a Ford Dealer and have been a Mustang fan for many many years< I am in the process of building a Big Block 460 fox body but the project is taking a little time and money, and in the mean time Several Chevrolet fans have desided that a mustang can not be stock or in iron form and beat their 13.20's LS-1. so I have a donor 91 lx hatch and a stock 5.0 motor so help me keep it close to stock (looking) and take out these traders.

O-ya I have a 89 stang with a DSS 331 that has lots of goodies that ran 12.03 at 118 but they say its not stock like the WS6 or the LS-1 bring on the IDeas and lets have some fun

well, it would take a lot of time and some money but you could get 280rwhp with ford production stuff if not more.

Does it have to sound stock?

I just tuned a car with PMS that made 283rwhp with ported gt40s (the originals), an e-cam with 1.7s and a ported and cut open gt40/explorer intake. t5, longtubes and 2 1/2" magnaflows.

You can cut/open and port a gt40 or even a stock intake to support over 300rwhp on the motor.

honestly, they're right. why spend a bunch of time and money trying to prove that a stock 5.0 can hang with a LS1? It can't, stock. Without going crazy with the $$$, i think a stock looking fox will top out around 260-270 rwhp... But who has a bone stock stang these days? Just run em' when you're ready with that 460!

stock to stock there is now way a 5.0 can beat an LS1. Hell my freinds stock 98 LS1 auto Camaro went 13.0's with only a set of 16" MT DR's. He was only a gear change away from 12's at the time.

Now he runs 11.60's with a cam swap, new convertor and minor bolt ons. I hate it as much as you do, but it is a fact none the less.

Thats why my new Dart 347 is built to take a ton of boost. LS1s usually hit a wall some where in the 11's, and that is when they start costing big money to go faster.

Let'em get their laughs and then direct them to your nearest '03-04 Cobra friend (if you've got one).

ok well youll have to put a set of gt40's on just for the "iron" look, to keep em fooled, then put a ported stock intake on, with an explorer throttle body, and a ported stock egr spacer(all to look stock) and then every single bolt on there is to make some extra hp, oh and dont forget, advance the stock cam +4* and you should be set to run with em, might want to get some dr's and 4.10's...

With 4.10s and decent traction you might even get the jump on'em, but past 70mph it's no contest. The LS engines scream up top and the 4.10s just run out of breath unless your "stock" engine can run past 6500rpm.

yeah, how much did that LS1 cost him? now compare that to what your fox is worth. to make up the difference, aftermarket parts are a must. besides, he's comparing ~10 year newer technology and mechanical advancements to a 20 year old car with a smaller motor. regardless, most LS1's i've raced, i take out of the hole for the first 2 gears, then they catch up and pull on me. that's when i had good tires with my 4:10's. with the tires i have now, i just spin for the first 2.5 gears. it's a hard fact of life, but those cars are quick, a stock 5.0 won't be able to take one at all.

You can actually can get some higher mileage ls1's for 5k. There was a couple in the paper the other day for that price.

Anyways...

Stroke the stock block to a 347. Port some Iron GT-40's to the max. Get an explorer intake and have it ported to the max. Custom cam and tell them to keep the "sound" down, but the performance up

Strip everything out of it.

Wouldn't a stock cobra eat a ws6 and ls1?

'03-04 yes, but not the NA cars. Then when you win they just say it's an unfair match because you've got a supercharger. It's all fair game though when they've got 346ci and we've got 281.

Yep, the Ls1s have 23% more displacement than the 4.6L guys.

The 05-08 4.6L 3 valve engines make more horsepower per liter than the Ls1s do.
