Justin at JPC does a hidden N2O system with a small bottle and solenoid in the door and line running up to the vacuum tree and then into the intake from there. I forgot where he puts the button. There was an article in one of the mags about a year ago, I think. This would be cheating, of course.

Unlike many brand loyal purists,I don't hate because its chevy, ford, etc. Its a crown jewel of pushrod technology and wish ford would have developed the 5.0 more.

Yeah i agree. I'm a Ford guy at heart but when it comes down to it i'm a CAR guy and i appreciate a good performing engine.

'03-04 yes, but not the NA cars. Then when you win they just say it's an unfair match because you've got a supercharger. It's all fair game though when they've got 346ci and we've got 281.

This guy doesn't seem to be bothered by it. You would hope 3 extra cams, 16 extra valves and a good amount of boost would make up for a few cubes.

The LS engines are sick,my buddy had a 98 z-28 and that thing was just an animal,i almost bought one but the looks are nasty(except the ws-6) , ,plus they suck to work on..But like someone else said they probably have close to 20 years or more of technological advancement on the 302 with injection which is basically the same since 1986,other than the switch to mass air from SD system.Makes me wonder if i put a 5.4 in my coupe if i can hang?

what about the 05 mustang with an auto they were getting really really low 13's. Just get some better tires and gears and you will be waving as you pass them.

Not on the highway you wouldn't.

They have trapped 104 mph.

An average stock 5.0L traps near 10 mph shy of the 05-08 GTs.

a GOOD set of ported E-7 heads and intake (eg. tmoss or thumper), usual bolt-ons, cam and gears, it's very possible to get under 13's from what i've seen. that said, it's possible, not practical. it's not worth the $$$ if you ask me, but if you've got $$$ burning a hole in your pocket and really want the bone stock look, i think mid-high 12's wouldn't be far fetched at all.
also, if you think 14's will be enough to beat an LS1, i'd suggest doing some research, and crossing your fingers that the other guy hasn't done the same kind of mods you have....

LS engines have 10 more years of development in them. They are FAR superior to any production Fox 5.0. Thats the honest truth.

BINGO!!!

If Ford continued enhancing the pushrod engine past '95, they probably would have kept up, if not produced a better engine than GM. They just went in a different direction.
It's a bit unfair to compare an engine from '87 and one from the mid '90's.

Oh...and...FREE POST!!!

The OHC engine is superior to the pushrod. It is just lacking one fundamental thing.

Cubic Inches...

Of course, with this, it needs more engine room to work with.

honestly, they're right. why spend a bunch of time and money trying to prove that a stock 5.0 can hang with a LS1? It can't, stock. Without going crazy with the $$$, i think a stock looking fox will top out around 260-270 rwhp... But who has a bone stock stang these days? Just run em' when you're ready with that 460!

+1. That's like comparing apples to oranges. The LSX motors are pretty far ahead in the technology totem pole when compared to the 5.0's. They really shouldn't be wasting their time bragging about how they can beat a "stock" 5.0.

Either way, they still drive F-Bodys

Just another example of what kind of silly power a cam only LS1 can put out. LS1s are the best bang for the buck when it comes to power. GM has done amazing work with them.

Apparently the Mach 1's put out pretty close numbers though on the dyno.

What?

Someone stated before that a high mileage LS1 can be had for 5k. I could easily build a better 302/331/347 that would smoke the snot out of an LS1 for less than 5k.
